Annual Christmas Bird Count Recap and Chili Pot-luck

Come out and learn about six of Delaware's Christmas Bird Counts from the Compilers who organize the counts for Wilmington, Bombay Hook, Middletown, Milford, Rehoboth Beach and Cape Henlopen-Prime Hook. Bring along your best home-made chili or soup to share with the club before the meeting, Chili dinner begins at 6:30 rather than the normal 7 pm pre-meeting social gathering.

Tour of the Habitats and Flora of Delaware

William McAvoy, botanist with the Delaware Division of Parks and Recreation, will take DOS members and guests on an armchair tour of the habitats and flora of Delaware, from the Piedmont province in northern New Castle County, to the Coastal Plain province of Sussex County.  Mr. McAvoy will provide brief descriptions of the most commonly encountered habitats in Delaware and the plant species that are associated with those habitats.

Would you like to learn how to check in on nesting birds? Join Joe Sebastiani to find out how you can safely monitor birds' progress and contribute that data to science. We'll take a walk to visit several occupied nest boxes around the property, and come back inside to share our observations with Cornell's NestWatch. Meet Joe at Ashland Nature Center at 6PM.
