View for the Big Sit by Declan O’Neil
Join the Big Sit!
A “big sit” is a unique birding event where as many birds as possible are counted from one stationary location. Providing a scenic view of the Brandywine Valley, the large hill at First State National Historical Park is an ideal big-sitting spot!
Our main targets will be migrating raptors and songbirds in addition to resident species. Past rarities seen from the hill at First State include Short-eared Owl, Orange-crowned Warbler, and Sandhill Cranes, so we’ll make sure to keep our eyes peeled!
This is a casual event, so feel free to come and go as you please. Bring a folding chair and a picnic if desired.
We will meet at the top of the hill, accessed from the Ramsey Road parking lot across from Ramsey’s Farm.
