Pine Warbler by Carolyn Holland
Blue-winged Teal by Michael Moore

The old fire-tower type observation structure at Assawoman WLA has recently been replaced with an incredible ADA accessible boardwalk which loops through a wooded area & opens up to views of Mulberry Pond & Sixty-five Acre Pond from a large deck area.  Bring your scope if you have one and join Anthony to look for Blue-winged & Green-winged Teals, Hooded Mergansers, Buffleheads, Ruddy Ducks, Wood Ducks and others as well as herons, egrets, raptors, gulls and terns.  In the pine woods we can find Ovenbirds, Pine and Yellow-rumped Warblers and Golden-crowned Kinglets at this time of year along with resident Brown-headed Nuthatches, woodpeckers and many other species.  In the marshy areas we can observe Swamp Sparrows and it is possible to hear or even see several species of rails.

A Conservation Access Pass is required.  https://dnrec.delaware.gov/fish-wildlife/conservation-access-pass/

Contact Carolyn at [email protected] if you have any questions about this trip.

Meet at the Assawoman check station located at the Mulberry Landing entrance to the wildlife area.
