SUMMARY:Augustine Wildlife Area -- Ashton Tract with Will Krohn
DESCRIPTION:Yellow-throated Warbler by Gregory Gough \n\n\n\nExplore diverse habitats at Ashton Tract!\n\n\n\nBlue Grosbeak by Will Krohn\n\n\n\nJoin Will for some early spring migration birding along Augustine Wildlife Area’s Ashton Tract. Extensive wetlands\, meadows\, and mixed woodlands host a wide variety of songbirds\, waders\, waterfowl\, and shorebirds during this time of year. The Ashton Tract has an observation platform to observe the wetlands\, where we may see early shorebirds like Greater Yellowlegs\, late waterfowl like Green-winged Teal\, as well as Delaware’s resident population of Sandhill Cranes. Meadows host grassland species like American Kestrel and Field Sparrow\, and forested habitats host Pine and Yellow-throated Warbler\, among many other songbird species. Augustine Wildlife Area is in a prime location along the Delaware River to attract rarities\, so there’s always a chance to find something unexpected!  \n\n\n\nIf you have a spotting scope\, please bring it. A scope will be available for shared use. We will walk ~0.5 miles along flat terrain\, mostly gravel paths\, and a port-a-potty is available at the entrance. \n\n\n\nA Conservation Access Pass is required. https://dnrec.delaware.gov/fish-wildlife/conservation-access-pass/. \n\n\n\n Contact Will Krohn (wkrohn@udel.edu) with any questions. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will meet at the parking lot for Ashton Tract (507 Thorntown Rd\, Middletown\, DE 19709). This lot is at the end of a long gravel\, road.
