June Birding Bash: Annual Picnic & Bird-A-Thon Celebration!
Summer is here! Migrants are mostly gone and our resident birds are busy laying eggs and raising young! June is often one of the slower birding months during the year, but 2017 has been quite the exception with Little Egret, White-faced Ibis, Little Gull, and Tropical Kingbird. But it’s not just the birds that will make June 2017 memorable – Delmarva Ornithological Society wants to participate too!!
Please join DOS on Sunday, June 25 for our inaugural June Birding Bash! We have a day of events planned that will make any birder happy!
In the morning, join one of two field trips to kick off the day! You can choose from:
1) Middletown Grasslands and Blackbird State Forest: DOS Council Member Joe Sebastiani will be leading a trip to some of the most unique areas of southwestern New Castle County. Travel to southwest New Castle County to find Eastern Meadowlark, Grasshopper Sparrow, Savannah Sparrow, and Dickcissel at Charles Price Park. Then take a tour of the infrequently birded Blackbird State Forest for breeding warblers and maybe look for a few amphibians and reptiles. Meet at Charles Price park near the Bark Park at 8:30 AM. This is a half-day trip and don’t forget your sunscreen, insect repellant and water!
