Ospreys
SPRING 2009
Early this spring 2009, we started replacing three problem Osprey nest structures in Delaware’s inland bays area. On three separate days damaged Osprey platforms were replaced in Savages Ditch in Rehoboth Bay, Cow Pasture Cove in Indian River Bay, and Peppers Landing in Little Assawoman Bay. Our volunteers helped on many fronts from site assessment, property issues, platforms, equipment, marina transportation, and platform placement. A special thanks to the crew this spring and they included: Lew Dumont, John Janowski, Jason Davis, Holly Niederriter, Claudio and Naomi Tangini, Ralph Boone, Chris Bennett, Bridget Lantz and Ken Arni.
Later in early May the Delaware’s Shoreline & Management section of DNREC asked us to help them re-locate an Osprey pair attempting to nest atop their barge crane. This site was along Broad Creek in Lewes, Delaware. The orange cones placed on the roof of the crane were not deterring this persistent pair. With the help of several state employees and their boat we were able to provide an alternative nest structure on state park property. As we were cleaning up our equipment the nesting pair relocated to the new platform. Special thanks to all who helped in a very fast way with this nest problem and they include: John Janowski, Holly Neiderriter, Liz and Lew Dumont, Chris Bennett, Cynthia, Cleaver, and James Harmon.
A special thanks to those who have made financial contributions to help us off set Osprey platform material expenses. If you would like to make a contribution please send to:
