Nest Card FAQ ("what
are they and why should I get them?") |
| |
|
| |
Many DOS members are already aware of nest cards and how they are
used by researchers and regulators. Last year, the cards were included
in the DOS monthly newsletter, the Flyer. In addition to
researchers at the Delaware
Museum of Natural History (see FAQ, above), Delaware's Deptartment
of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) is interested
in the data.
In particular DNREC has expressed an interest in using the nest
card data from rare and endangered bird species in US Army Corp
wetland permit reviews and local county land reviews. Karen Bennett,
with the DE Fish & Wildlife Natural
Heritage Program, detailed how the data on species are to be
used in land review proceedings at the June DOS Picnic.
Visit the DE
Fish & Wildlife website for information on rare and endangered
birds and other animals...You may also view the
latest wildlife regulations (pdf format).
The
Delaware Natural Heritage Program also has reporting forms
for rare plants and wildlife found in Delaware. You can download
these forms from their website...
