Spring Roundup

Now transitioned to eBird, DOS ran the roundup for 50 years.

A 50 year tradition

Delaware Spring Roundup

DOS conducted a statewide spring census, called the Spring Roundup, annually for 50 years – a half century of citizen science and fun. The final census was conducted in 2018. We thank the many people who participated in the roundup over its history and we particularly want to recognize the hard work of the compilers.

The advent of new technologies, particularly eBird, has provided new and improved ways to gather data about spring migration. There is no longer a need for a single day, state-wide survey and the Spring Roundup has been phased out.

We encourage everyone to continue the spirit of the Spring Roundup by contributing sightings to eBird throughout the spring migration period.  Consider visiting a variety of different sites across the state to help make sure we have information on areas other than the traditional migration hotspots. DOS offers a number of excellent field trips during the spring if you enjoy birding with a group or would like some help polishing your ID skills. Please join us!
